Planet Mitsubishi Gives $16,000 to Local Charities to End 2015

December Promotion Hits Goal For Families In Need, Non-Profit Organizations

For Immediate Release – January 11, 2016

CHARLOTTE, NC – It was a December to Remember at Planet Mitsubishi – not just for the Charlotte-based auto dealership, but for the five dozen customers who purchased a new vehicle.

Every customer who made a purchase last month received two holiday gifts – a $250 American Express gift card for them to use personally and the chance to choose a local charity to receive a matching $250 gift card donation.

In all, 64 individuals bought new cars, resulting in a total donation of $16,000 to different organizations across the Charlotte-metro area.

“That basically went a long way to make Christmas brighter,” said Helmi Felfel, owner and president of Planet Mitsubishi and its parent company, Planet Automotive Group. “I can’t express in words how grateful I am to our entire Planet family for making this opportunity a reality.”

Planet Mitsubishi is no stranger to giving back. The dealership has long supported a number of Mecklenburg County non-profit and community-based organizations.

But its December 2015 promotion, called Naughty or Nice, raised the bar and distinguished Planet Mitsubishi among its automotive peers.

The dealership created the promotion in an effort to sell 64 new vehicles in December. The final sale – No. 64 – came at 8 p.m. on December 31.

“We just knew we were going to hit our number and what we wanted to do was give it all away. Do something truly good for the community,” said Felfel, a proud member of the North Carolina Automotive Dealer’s Association, the National Automobile Dealers Association and the National Association of Minority Auto Dealers.

Planet Mitsubishi identified three charities for customers to consider – Charlotte Rescue Mission, A Child’s Place and The Humane Society of Charlotte.

“Some of the customers picked out other charities like local churches and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” Felfel said. The dealership purchased 128 total American Express gift cards to provide to customers and deliver to their choice of charity.

Felfel said he was especially touched when many recipients said they planned to use their own $250 gift card for something other than a personal purchase.

“Some of our customers indicated that they were going to use their gift card to help a family in need and some of our local schools,” he said. “We were obviously overjoyed to see them give back too.”

Mitsubishi Motors Closes 2015 Up Over 22 Percent For The Year

• Mitsubishi reports December sales of 7,887, an increase of 20.5 percent over last December

• December 2015 marks the 22nd consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases

• Outlander Sport posts its best December sales month ever

• Mitsubishi CUVs lead the charge in December with sales up 37.4 percent over 2014

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) today reported calendar year 2015 total sales of 95,342, up 22.8 percent over 2014 and the best yearly sales since 2008. For the month of December, sales were 7,887, continuing a historic streak of 22 consecutive months of year-over-year sales increases.

"2015 was a monumental year for Mitsubishi Motors in many ways: we reported sales increases every month over the prior year, our dealer network has strengthened and we successfully launched the new 2016 Outlander. Most importantly, we’re poised to repeat our success in 2016,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president, MMNA. “Mitsubishi’s strategy for the U.S. is all about crossover SUVs and the launch of the 2017 Mirage G4. In 2015 both Outlander and Outlander Sport showed strong demand at dealerships and posted total sales of 5,292, up 37.4 percent over the previous year.”

The Mitsubishi Outlander and Outlander Sport CUVs remained the volume leaders for the brand. Outlander sales were up 76.6 percent over December 2014 with total sales of 1,936. Outlander Sport reports sales of 3,356, which represents a 21.8 percent increase year-over-year. This was Outlander Sport’s best December since the CUV went on sale in October 2010.

Looking ahead, the redesigned 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer will be in full supply at dealerships in January 2016. In addition, the highly anticipated 2016 Outlander Sport featuring a new design begins production in January and will be at dealerships in the first quarter of 2016.

“The support of our dealers, along with a very strong showroom of revamped product offerings will propel us into the new year; Mitsubishi’s sales momentum will continue strong through 2016 and beyond,” said Swearingen.

Charlotte Car Dealership Assists Three Catholic Sisters In Need

For Immediate Release,

CHARLOTTE, NC – The storied St. Vincent de Paul parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte has given back to the community since January 1961, but in September 2015, it was Planet Mitsubishi’s turn to return the favor.

New sales associate Thomas Loria helped three sisters from the parish purchase a previously-owned 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. The sisters previously had shared use of a pastor’s vehicle to drive to and from their respective weekday jobs.

“I guess every sale here is a feel good moment when you see a smile on someone’s face, but that one was very nice,” Loria said. “They were very appreciative.”

The sale was one of 17.5 new and previously-owned vehicles that Loria sold last month, helping him claim the honor of Planet’s Salesman of the Month for September.

The recognition was particularly special for Loria since he just joined the dealership in July. Loria, 34, previously sold insurance and advertising. He recently tied for the tops sales position in August.

“From what I was doing with insurance, I was able to help people. With this dealership specifically, we’re still helping people,” he said. “I like the opportunity to actually get somebody into the car they want and cover everybody’s needs and the majority of their wants. We’re able to get people into vehicles other dealerships aren’t necessarily able to.”

Planet Mitsubishi, and its parent company, Planet Automotive Group, have a long history in the Charlotte-metro area of giving back, both in financial support and volunteer efforts.

The dealership, owned by Helmi Felfel, a member of the North Carolina Automotive Dealer’s Association, National Automobile Dealers Association and National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers, is actively involved with a number of local charities and community organizations. Planet Mitsubishi routinely leads the Eastern district in sales and is ranked as one of the Top 10 Mitsubishi dealerships in the U.S.

Loria, whose father is Catholic, said he was introduced to the parish sisters by Dewayne Moser, a North Carolina native and Charlotte resident, who is a longtime friend of Felfel and his wife. Moser had been alerted to the sisters’ plight by an associate of his, a Good Samaritan who wished to remain anonymous but wanted to help, and together the two men contacted Loria and Planet Mitsubishi.

“They asked me to get this car ready for them, detailed, basically walk the sisters through the process of buying the vehicle,” Loria said. “The (sisters) were borrowing the pastor’s vehicle all the time. They have day jobs as well. A couple of them work at a local hospital, another with children. They were all sharing one vehicle.”

Planet Mitsubishi is known in the community for going the extra mile for its customers and finding successful financing for individuals regardless of their credit history.

Loria said he has embraced the Planet philosophy because he too enjoys taking that extra step to assist customers facing hardships.

“If we can’t them into a new car today, I try to give them a roadmap on how we can get them there as quick as possible,” he said.
